United Nations Day

United Nations day aims and achievements of the United Nations Organization.  It is part of United Nations Week, which runs from 20 to 26 October. The UN’s World Development Information Day has also been held on 24 October since 1972.

Main Course:

  • Best FIFA Male player 2017 award goes to Ronaldo.
    • Christiano Ronaldo took this award fourth time in five year, finishing ahead of Barcelona’s Messi.
    • Also Ronaldo was won FIFA world player of the year award in 2008.

  • HSBC India get an Indian CEO after 8 years.
    • London based Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Cooperation has appointed CEO post to Jayant Rikhye effectively from Dec 1.
    • HSBC get Indian CEO after a gap of many year since Naina Lal Kidwai was completed her term in 2009. Rikhye was working from 1989 with HSBC, He is
      group general manager, head of strategy and planning and regional head

  • Bangladesh signed gas oil agreement with India.
    • Bangladesh signed long term agreement with India refiner in sales and purchase to import gas oil to meet country’s energy demand.
    • Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. will take up to 250,000 tonnes of gas oil yearly from Numaligarh Refinery to BPC’s northern fuel depot through a 131-km pipeline, which will be built by India.
    • This deal signed in dhaka between Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. (BPC) and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) in presence of India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.
  • India’s First Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra launched for Skilling in Smart Cities
    • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra has launched in New Delhi under Skill India Mission in collaboration with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
    • The main motive of the centre is to provide skill training for unemployed youth through its Short-Term Training (STT) module and contribute to the capacity building of municipal employees through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program.(Source- PIB)
  •  Pakistani pacer takes 5 wickets in 21 balls in his 2nd ODI.
    • Pakistani fast bowler Usman Khan picked up five wickets and claim the third-quickest five-wicket haul in ODIs since 2001.
    • The 23-year-old left-arm pacer dismissed three of the Sri Lankan batsmen for a duck, reducing Sri Lanka to 20/5 in 6.3 overs.(Source- inshorts)
