  • World Food Day
    • 16 October is celebrated in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.
    • This day celebrated by food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
    • Theme for last three year as follow:
      • 2014 – Family Farming: “Feeding the world, caring for the earth”
      • 2015 – “Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty”
      • 2016 – “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too”

Main Course:

  • Roger Federer Cruises to Shanghai Masters Title
    • Roger Federer defeated world number one Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-3 to win the Shanghai Masters. It’s Roger’s fourth victory of the year over his Spanish rival.
    • Roger Federer had defeated Nadal in the finals of the Australian Open and Miami Masters and in the last 16 at Indian Wells earlier this year, and was all set to win Shanghai, firing 10 aces as he cruised to victory. (Source- BBC Sports)
  • Guiness Record at IISF Chennai 2017

    • Anna University sets Guinness World Record for the Largest Biology Lesson in the on going India International Science Festival (IISF)
    • 1049 student were part of this lesson.
    •  Dr. Harsh Vardhan  Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Science, said PM Narendra Modi to encourage and promote science and the Govt. of India has launched many Flagship Programmes in this regard. (Source- Press Information Bureau (PIB))
  • Rajasthan Assembly First in India to Call Motions Online

    • Rajasthan assembly has gone digital and has become first to do so, It has become first to call attention and adjournment motions and proposals online from legislators with state government.
    • This process will save human labour and will help legislators in bringing attention to urgent public issues. Also will be saving thousands of trees by saving papers. (Source-AIR News)
  • Direct Tax Collections in First Half of Current Financial Year rise 15.8 percent

    • Direct Tax Collections grow by of 15.8 percent in the first half (April-September) of the current fiscal (2017-18).
    • Finance Ministry said the provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to September 2017, which shows net collections are at 3.86 lakh crore rupees which is higher than the corresponding perio of last year.
    • Net Direct Tax collections represent 39.4 percent of the total budget estimates of Direct Taxes for the financial year 2017-18.(Source- The Hindu Business Line)
